Now recommending everyone gets H1N1 flu vaccine

The H1N1 flu vaccine now can be given to every person, regardless of whether you fit any of the previously announced risk categories. James Riser, M.D., says the vaccination is recommended for all patients.

At Riser Medical Associates, we’ll be making it as convenient as possible for our regular patients (and even potential patients, as supplies allow) to receive the H1N1 vaccination. Just drop in at the twice weekly Flu Clinic that is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. Register online at risermedical.com.

For insured individuals, those using Medicaid and Medicare and for school age children, the H1N1 shot will be free. Others will pay a $10 administrative fee.

Dr. Riser also says that if you have not yet gotten your seasonal flu shot, do not delay! “This is still prime time to get your seasonal flu vaccination,” Dr. Riser says. “In fact, you can get both the H1N1 and the seasonal flu shots during your same visit.”

Under Federal guidelines, supplies of the H1N1 vaccination previously had been earmarked for patients with the highest risk of contracting and spreading the disease: children, pregnant women, older adults, anyone with certain chronic conditions, front-line health workers and childcare providers. But beginning the first week of 2010, the Federal government has made available enough supplies to cover all patients.
